Pick a star…Any star.
Have you ever wished on [stars]?
Yes, when I was very small. When I got older, they were less to be wished upon and more to be relied upon.
She’s a fanciful child with golden hair and eyes that are bright with wonder as she looks to the sky. The stars are exceptionally bright that evening and she feels almost as if she can reach up and seize one to make her own. This is impossible, of course, but the idea pleases her and an awed smile turns at her pink lips.
The child takes a moment to select from one of the many stars that dot the night’s dark blue sky and she closes her eyes.
She wishes to rise up, to be great.
And the stars are gracious and she rises up.
**************
She’s an astounding young woman with blonde tresses pulled up and eyes that shine with curious thoughtfulness as they open. Her angel is startled as they pull from one another, and she softens her features in assurance. She has walked among his memories even as he has sifted through hers. She sees his loneliness, an unwavering constellation that is fixed in the stars that burn in his mind.
The courtesan calls to mind the unfamiliar stars of the far off galaxies from his memories years later. She has wished upon every star in her sky and none of them have yet answered her. She selects her star and her eyes close.
She wishes to see those unfamiliar stars, to see new skies.
And the stars are kind and she finds herself in a position to see that new sky, and a man makes himself her Northern Star.
**************
She’s every bit as fanciful, and perhaps even more astonishing than she has ever been with flaxen hair and eyes that are filled with an impish sort of delight. The unfamiliar night sky above her is becoming more and more familiar and so is the weight of his arms around her. He’s remarkable and he makes her feel
special and wanted.
Together they watch the stars and steal kisses between affectionate words. They decide that these new stars should be broken in with a wish and when they’ve selected their respective stars they close their eyes.
Their wish is the same; they want to be happy…
together.
And the stars are smiling and two lives that have been so dark are bright with their contentment.
